This is so true, that people hide in plain sight. It’s so rewarding to go back over research done early on— inevitably there is something clue missed right under your nose!
My entire ancestry is German, and going way back the conventions were absolute and so easy to figure. But as the families came to America, that practice sort of fell away. Throw in the ubiquitous habit of nicknames and house names, yikes! But, like you’ve, I’ve definitely discovered ancestors by cofirming the names of their children.
I don’t n ow how future genealogists will do it! 🤣
